Getting to Viseu by car or coach
You can reach Viseu by car or coach using the main roads through central Portugal.
By car (Porto, Lisbon and Spain)
From Porto (about 1h20): A1 south to Albergaria, then the A25 to Viseu.
From Lisbon (about 3h): A1 north to Coimbra, then the IP3, or carry on to Albergaria and take the A25.
From Spain (about 1h15 from the border): A25 straight from Vilar Formoso.
Long-distance express coaches
Viseu's coach station (the road terminal on Avenida Dr. António José de Almeida) receives dozens of daily services from Rede Expressos and FlixBus. From the terminal to Rossio, it is just a 10-minute walk or 5 minutes on the MUV city bus lines or taxi.
Train (Beira Alta line)
Viseu is served by the railway stations of Nelas (25 km away) and Mangualde (20 km away) on the Beira Alta line. From these stations there are intercity buses and taxis running directly to the centre of Viseu.

Covered and underground car parks
The underground car parks at Parque de Santa Cristina (next to the Rossio), Fórum Viseu car park and Parque 21 de Agosto offer supervised spaces a few steps from the centre, sheltered from sun and rain.

For longer stays or on busy days, the open-air car park at Weekly market / Campo de Viriato and the spaces next to Parque de Santiago are free and connect to the centre on foot or by bus.
On-street spaces with pay and display
Paid on-street parking in the centre runs on weekdays (usually 08:30 to 19:30) and on Saturday mornings. You can pay at the meters or through parking apps.

MUV: Viseu urban mobility
The guide covers urban routes C1/C2 and municipal routes with published municipal timetables. C1/C2 serve Rossio, the hospital, shopping centres, Cava and Fontelo; frequency varies by day and time. Also check routes L10, L22 and L23 with operator Berrelhas, as they are not fully reproduced in this guide.
Viseu funicular
The funicular links the Pavia and Cava de Viriato with the Adro da Sé at the top of the hill. It is an option if you would rather avoid the climb or have difficulty walking.
