Colégio da Via-Sacra

A school in central Viseu, on Rua Cónego António Barreiros. Enrolment opens each school year, directly at the school.

Colégio da Imaculada Conceição

Run by the Dorothean Sisters, on Rua Nossa Senhora de Fátima. The congregation has been in the city for over a century.

Jardim-Escola João de Deus de Viseu

Preschool and primary education using the João de Deus method, in Parque do Fontelo. A private social solidarity institution, present in the city since 1943.

Escola Profissional Mariana Seixas

Private vocational education at the Solar dos Viscondes de Treixedo, on Rua Direita. Upper-secondary courses in health, IT, catering, sport, multimedia and beauty, plus adult training.

Escola Profissional Profitecla

Viseu branch of the country's largest vocational school, on Rua Formosa, beside Mercado 2 de Maio. Upper-secondary courses in fields such as catering, tourism and communication.

Escola Profissional Jean Piaget de Viseu

Vocational education in Lordosa, ten minutes from the city centre. Upper-secondary courses in the Jean Piaget network.

Escola Profissional Projeto Plural

A school run by Fundação Joaquim dos Santos, based in Torredeita, with a branch in the city on Rua Alexandre Herculano. Upper-secondary courses, including Legal Services Technician.

Is a school missing here?

We list the schools we could confirm in an official source. We do not use Google Maps for this list: Maps does not tell state and private schools apart, and we do not want to mislabel any. If you know another one, tell us.

Association contract

Some private schools have had public funding through an association contract, which changes the fees. Check the current situation with the school before counting on it.

Non-profit and charitable

At participating institutions, Creche Feliz offers free nursery care for eligible children. Outside that scheme, check the fees and the institution's rules. Eligibility does not guarantee a place.

State and municipal network

Fewer places and high demand. Applications open on fixed dates and places are allocated by priority criteria.

For-profit private nurseries

Participating private nurseries can join Creche Feliz under the conditions set by Social Security. Since 9 April 2026, applications for free places can also be made online. Confirm participation, eligibility and availability; outside the scheme, the nursery's fees apply. Nursery care is for early childhood and is distinct from preschool education.

Carta Social lets you look up nurseries, their legal status and registered capacity. Confirm vacancies, opening hours and Creche Feliz participation directly with the institution.

It only exists for upper secondary

The national ranking uses average national exam results from secondary schools. It cannot be used to compare nurseries, preschools or basic education, in Viseu or elsewhere in Portugal.

There is more than one ranking

One ranks by raw exam average; another, the value-added ranking, compares each school with others of similar socioeconomic background. The same school lands in very different positions depending on the maths.

It measures results, not the whole school

Look beyond the ranking at pupils’ progress, inclusion, the school environment and the distance from home. The best fit for your child may not be the highest-ranked school.
