Between 2011 and 2021 it went from 4,949 to 5,891 residents, up 19.0%. In the same period, neighbouring Rio de Loba lost population.

In 6.23 km² live 5,891 people (945.6 inhab./km²). Between 2011 and 2021 it gained population (+19.0%). The City Council describes Ranhados as merging with the city: from old streets to dual carriageways. It is the fifth most populous parish and one of the densest after the Parish of Viseu. By day Viso is busy with Palácio do Gelo. At night the cinema and shops keep some footfall going; the rest is residential.
At 6.23 km², it is one of the most compact parishes in the municipality. MUV Line 8 serves Ranhados and Viso Sul. Since 1 September 2026, municipality residents aged 24 or over travel free on MUV with the Passe Residente Viseu.
